HOW TO BUY BOTTLES AND NIPPLES

When it comes to buying stuff for our little ones, you surely cannot take any chance. What do we need to check before buying bottles and nipples?

BOTTLES

a. Material- it may vary from glass, silicon, plastic to stainless steel. Plastic bottles are light and inexpensive, but it needs to be replaced regularly while glass bottles are heavy and last longer but are more expensive than the former. Silicone bottles and stainless steel bottles are light, unbreakable, and even BPA-free but are costly than the glass and plastic bottles.

b. Shape- bottles come in numerous shapes. Bottles with angled necks are often easy to hole for the babies while the ones with wide-necked shape may make the measuring formula easier.

c. Disposables- bottles having drop-in plastic inserts (used only once) filled with breast milk can be convenient to carry and are easy to clean too.

d. Venting systems- many bottles have a straw-like component in them to prevent your baby from ingesting gas-causing bubbles. These bottles are often marketed as avoiding colic.

e. Size and number- the size of the bottle may vary from about 4 to 12.  A 4-ounce bottle is perfect for a small amount of breast milk while 8-9 ounce bottle is fit for your four months old baby.

NIPPLES

a. Material-nipples usually come in either latex or silicone. Former is softer and flexible while later are firmer.

b. Shape- flat-topped and wide nipples feel more like a mother’s breast while orthodontist nipples are designed to accommodate the baby’s palate.

c. Size and flow-preemies and newborns need the smallest size of the nipple with the slowest flow, but babies get older they graduate to larger sixes and faster flows to suck and drink adequately.
d. Disposables- they become handy while you’re on the go. They are prepackaged and sterilized.
